Girls Golf: No. 1 beats No. 2 as Wingers top Edina
If all things go as planned, the rematch will be on a different course. But Red Wing will be hoping for the same result nonetheless. On Saturday, the Wingers, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, met seven other teams, including No. 2 Edina, at the Rosemount Irish Invitational. And, led by medalist Stephanie Herzog, Red Wing held off the Hornets, winning the tournament with a 310.
Edina's second-place score of 312 showed the dominance of the two teams this season with Lakeville North placing third with a 341. Minnetonka (346) and Rosemount (350) also battled for third, while Park (390) came in sixth. Hastings (407) and Chaska (429) rounded out the field.
Stephanie's 73 edged Edina's Christine Portillo and fellow Winger Sophia Yoemans by a stroke.
Hornet Hannah Hankinson had a 77 for fourth, and Red Wing's Leah Herzog came in fifth with a 78. Grace Kellar was Edina's third scorer with a sixth-place score of 79. Joanna Kim closed out the Hornets' 312 with a ninth-place showing of 82. Rosemount's Gretchen McDonald and Solveig Christenson's 85 tied for 12th, and completed Red Wing's line.
