Lakeville North once again had two of the top three individual finishers, but Rosemount’s depth carried the Irish to the team title at Friday’s Dakota County Championships.
The Irish’s No. 3 golfer Sydney Regalado defeated the Panthers’ No. 3 scorer by nine strokes and that proved to be the difference in the Irish’s 362-364 victory at Emerald Greens Golf Course outside Hastings.
The team win wasn’t the only thing that showcased the Irish’s depth. They fielded an entire second team and it managed to place sixth out of 11 squads.
Senior Jessica Petersen paced the Irish’s top unit with a fourth-place score of 86 on the Par 72 course. Teammate Gretchen McDonald was right behind in fifth place with 88.
Regalado shot an 89 to tie for sixth and Emily Hackerson provided the fourth counting score with a 99 that was good enough for 20th place out of 66 golfers. Alyssa O’Donnell and Renee Boldus each added rounds of 100 for the Irish.
The Rosemount Blue team shot a 399, led by Megan Shandorf’s round of 93. Callie Johnson joined her in double figures with a 97.
Elle Westphal (104), Nidhi Sunkham (105), Kalin Engelmann (115) and Emily Buckenberger (120) also teed it up for Rosemount Blue.
